The Adventures of a First Time Little Momma

Apps for your little ones — November 3, 2016

Apps for your little ones

I know… I know… no ipad / tablets below 3 years old. But what can I do? I know it is not an excuse but working momma here 🙋🏻  and it’s just one of those things I could use inorder to get things done like going to the bathroom alone for instance.

Yes I’m guilty of exposing my toddler too early in using ipad / tablets since he turned 1 last year. So what’s my point? In my case, it’s  inevitable so might as well have my son play the educational apps right?

Just here me out… PROPER app, supervision and aloted time in using the ipad / tablet IS key. But if you have all the time in the world or you just simply do not allow and want your kid exposed to gadgets use at such a young age, please share with me what you do so I could learn a thing or two. But for now, yes, I allow use of ipads / tablets and this article is about what apps I let my 2 year old toddler use.

Endless Reader , Endless Numbers, Endless Alphabet, Endless Wordplay and Endless Learning Academy all by Originator Inc. The apps were rated for ages 4+ and made for Ages 5 and under.

There’s a trial version of each app and a bundle package price of $ 59.99 for the school edition and single purchase per app ranges from $8.99 (Alphabet) to &14.99 (for more information please check the app description in the Apple Store

I let my son use the Endless Reader and Numbers as I have assessed that he can fully understand these apps and it is much appropriate for his age. As for the Endless Wordplay, its for kids 5 and below who are learning to spell.

My son, before turning two, knew how to count from 1-10 and I think it is a collective joint effort between everyone around him plus exposure with these educational apps as well.

So what do you let your kids use?

PNR Ride going home Rush hour 10/13/2016 — October 14, 2016

PNR Ride going home Rush hour 10/13/2016

Had an opportunity to ride the PNR going home to Sucat at a rush hour for the first time. Don’t get me wrong, I already rode the PNR years ago and it was such an easy ride because I rode it from the Tutuban station going to Sucat on a weekend in the afternoon when I went to Tutuban after a Milo Marathon in Rizal Park area.

So today, I was on field and visited our clients situated in the Tondo area. And to my surprise, the Abad Santos area  that I once thought was part of Blumentrit Manila was already part of Tondo. So after my curtesy visit, I wanted to try a route other than the Roxas Boulevard route going to Sucat. So I tried the PNR way.

I rode the 6:11pm train and the ride from Blumentrit to Sucat only costs 20.00 php.

The train filled up by the time we arrived at Vito Cruz station. By the time we got to the Buendia area, the train (I think) had already reached its capacity. When we got to Pasay Road I was pretty sure the train was going to be derailed. I feared for the safety of those who were standing up.
By the time we got to Bicutan the train almost had no passengers.

Bottleneck stations: Buendia to Bicutan

Maybe PNR could have an express train / skip train deployed to the bottle neck stations and charge a bit more in order to compesate for the loss of passengers from Tutuban to Vito Cruz station. An additional 10-20 pesos might hurt the budget of the most meager earner but I think the additional payment for safety and comfort is worth it.

I just hope the PnR has enough trains to think about the “Skip Train” to accomodate more passengers and generate more income.

I took the 6:11 pm train from Blumentrit Station and a little past the 1 hour mark I reached Sucat. Which is way better than when I take the Roxas Boulevard route going home that usually takes about 2-3 hours due to traffic that builds up in Roxas Boulevard to Tambo and NAIA Road.

The only problem is, it confused the hell out of me which station I already was. So I had to download a picture via net to keep track of the stations.

The experince was really humbling and just eye opening as I have seen and experienced first hand what the hardcore commuters experience every single day.

If PNR would be able to fix the bottle neck stations and deploy “skip trains” I could take this route going home everyday as it is very convinient.
Things to improve upon:

1. Announcement of Stations.

Because I stayed that the womens coach, near the engine room, I wasn’t sure if there was any announcement as to where the train was.

2. Lights

Please place more lights at the stations.

3. Deploy Skip Trains

To address the bottle neck stations (Vito Cruz to Bicutan)

EQ Pants — August 6, 2016

EQ Pants

Ever since Miguel started to walk and run around, it has been difficult to put diapers on him. He would either pull the straps off or the diaper would just come off. So I decided to let him wear diaper pants. My son has been using Huggies as his regular diaper, so I switched from the strap diaper of Huggies to their diaper pants line. Then I also tried the Korean brands, the ones that was sold online which was ok but the only problem was the source and the stock as well. So I switch back to Huggies dry pants again and have been using it for the longest time. The only problem I have encountered is, Huggies would tend to be always out of stock. So I would buy Mommy Poko as an alternative diaper pants which happens to be the case everytime we ran out of stock of Huggies. Long story short, Miguel had a serious case of diarrhea and I had to look for a much affordable version of the diaper pants. Lucky for us, we were able to find EQ pants. Which is much more affordable as compared to Huggies diaper pants and Mommy Poko pull ups, EQ Pants is way better in terms of quality and affordability.

Why choose EQ PANTS?

PROS

Price: 197.00 PHP for 24 pieces XXL

360 defrees snug fit

Waistband is stretchable and made of soft cottony materials that allows for a confortable fit even when baby is on the move. Its breathable waistband allows air to flow through, giving baby a fresher feeling while helping prevent irritation and rashes.

Super absorbent core with LDL

Allows maximum dryness by drawing urine away from baby’s skin, keeping baby feeling dry. The LDL (Liquid Distribution Layer) distributes urine evenly to prevent leakage.

Tear – Away Side Seams

Side seams of waistband are easily torn for a quick removal when changing pants.

this is what I do after tearing the side seams in order to control the mess. The waistband is stretchable making it easier to clean up after changing diapers. The diaper can also be disposed as burnable garbage to keep the environment clean.

Stand to Wear

Easy to put on your active toddler. It’s just like wearing underwear!

Leg Cuffs

Leg cuffs stretches with baby’s every move for a snug fit. It also prevents leakage.

CONS

1. Waistband is stretchable but for my son, l think it is a wee bit tight. Although I haven’t tried a larger size.

2. My son’s sleeping position sometimes worries me if EQ Pants would still be able to absorb the pee from any angle. Although since using EQ Pants, I have yet to experience leakage on the bed or on his bottoms.

3.  EQ pants in only available in Puregold (Sucat is where I got to buy it. Im not sure if every branch sells it) I have not seen this variety in SM Supermarket , Shopwise, or even in Mercury Drug.

All in all I will certainly continue to use EQ Pants on my sons precious little baby buttom.

Note: This is not a paid blog post for EQ

Landers Superstore — July 31, 2016

Landers Superstore

Landers Superstore

Three words that turns a momma on: Membership grocery shopping

There was Macro then SnR then now Landers Superstore!

Located at: EDSA Balintawak Quezon City right after Home Depot.

Membership Fee: 900 ++ for a primary membership with 1 suplementary card and 600++ just for a primary membership

Interesting finds:

Nutella Tub

Wine Ice Cream

Other than that tho, almost the same as the other membership grocery shopping stores that you all had the chance of going to.  What surprised me was their food.

Their pizzas are by far the best for me specially when it comes to variety. Pizza in WHEAT anyone? Yes you read it right. In wheat! Because we totally need that extra fiber for that kind of super oily food right?

Wheat Pizza anyone?
My son specially loved the crispylicious juciylicious chicken … Woopse wrong chicken. But it tasted like that but a wee bit jucier and tastier.

Landers Central Hot Meal Chicken
They also have turkey sausages which was a hit for my dad.

Landers Superstore is like one of those membership grocery store where you will want to be a member because this will be constantly a staple date place for those whose been into the relationship for quite a while now and for the whole family.

My goodness! Funny that categorized this grocery store as a “date” place. Why?  For one, back in the days my boyfriend and I would go to SnR and just hang out there for the pizza and clam chowder. Landers Super store definitely has that vibe too.  Good food, somewhat great grocery selection and the for the gentlemen… There’s actually a barber shop inside the superstore! Talas Manileño Barbershop.

So the dads titos and kuyas can have the pamper time that they too deserve.

Update 8/26/2016

Landers Superstore will soon open in B. Paz Guanzon St. Paco Manila

Hopefully they also open a branch in the south too. 🙂

Update 10/23/2016

We went to Landers 2nd branch in Paco Manila. Bigger place with bigger parkkng lot.

And I fonally got to try the Wine Ice Cream by Mercer’s in strawberry sparking which was so delish!
